As the founder of the influential Nepenthes retail and distribution company, Shimizu drew upon decades of experience sourcing rare garments to create a label that blended heritage influences with contemporary Japanese craftsmanship. Needles gained a devoted following through its distinctive approach to reconstruction, eclectic patterns, and relaxed silhouettes, while pieces such as the Track Jacket and Track Pant became some of the most recognizable items in modern Japanese fashion.
